A conversation with wood...

Before the carpentry machines make their characteristic sounds again and the chips start flying, the carpentry manager inspects his workshop, checks the quality of the wood and discusses the details of the latest orders with his colleagues. Thanks to the commitment and personal approach to wood, our carpentry shop is like a backbone for the body. In BHM, it is our foundation. It is there that the robust constructions for our furniture are created.

The BHM carpentry shop is a special place - not only in terms of our passion for the materials processed there, but also due to the restrictions on occupational health and safety. Working with wood as a raw material, in most cases, requires the operation of devices that pose a high accident risk, such as circular saws or milling machines. In BHM, our main motto is, therefore, "Safety first". Thanks to the modernization of our machine park, we have eliminated most of the devices that are the most dangerous to the health of our employees. We have replaced them with those with the highest safety standards, that are numerically controlled or that have additional secured guards. In the absence of other possibilities, the operation is carried out with the use of specially manufactured templates, thereby eliminating the risk of the operator coming into contact with machining elements of the machines, such as the spindle head or the saw. Moreover, the wearing of personal protective equipment at the carpentry shop is strictly required and enforced at every position. Clothing, work shoes and glasses eliminate the risk of injuries. Hearing protectors exclude its damage - traditionally, a well-known aspect of work in conditions of prolonged noise. Protecting the respiratory tract with masks additionally protects against carcinogenic effects of wood dust. In the carpentry hall, four high-performance extraction lines are also used to ensure maximum dust removal.

Together with a safe electrical installation, this directly eliminates the risk of explosion and improves the comfort of our carpentry staff. Safe work also means proper layout of work surfaces for all workstations, clutter-free communication routes and maintenance of order. The areas marked with floor lines systematize the entire space of the open hall. Separating the workspace for the operator influences its better organization of work and performance. Storage bays, together with marked communication routes, improve internal logistics. At the same time, they ensure that pedestrian and forklift movements can take place in a collision-free manner. In BHM, sustainable development also means a systematic, greater focus on health and safety regulations.

Overall, increased production capacity, new equipment and increased employment result in even higher safety standards for our Employees.
